How to use articles

The procedure
- STEP I: Is the referent identified by a differntiating modifier?
If 'yes' use "the", ask question 2.
우선, 대상 명사가 한정적으로 수식되어 있는가를 살펴보아,
그렇다면 the를 붙이고 그렇지 않다면 다음 질문으로
e.g. This is the book which I looking for. - STEP II:
Is the referent unique?
If 'yes' use "the", If 'No', ask question 3.
대상 명사가 유일한 것인가를 살펴보아,
그렇다면 the를 붙이고 그렇지 않다면 다음 질문으로
e.g. the Nile, the Alps... - STEP III:
Has the referent been previously identified?
If 'yes' use "the", If 'No', ask question 4.
대상 명사가 이미 앞에서 언급한 바가 있으면 the를 붙이고,
그렇지 않다면 (수식되거나, 유일하거나, 앞에서 언급된 바가 없는 경우) 다음 질문으로
e.g. In a previous paper, I discussed... Since the paper was centered on... - STEP IV:
Is the noun countable and singular?
If 'yes' use "a (an)", If 'No', ask question 5.
대상 명사가 셀수 있는 명사이고 단수인 경우에는 a 나 an을 붙이고, 그렇지 않으면 마지막으로 - STEP V:
Is the noun uncountable and plural?
If 'yes' use no article, THE END.
대상 명사가 셀수 없는 명사이거나 셀수 있는 명사라도 복수형으로 표현되어 있는 경우에는 아무 관사도 붙이지 않는다.
